Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under the 2nd Division, have rescued a mother and her six-month-old child following a kidnapping incident in Egbe, Yagba West local government area of Kogi State.
Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, acting assistant director of Army Public Relations for 12 Brigade, confirmed that the incident occurred late on June 3, 2026, when terrorists stormed a residence near Solid Rock School in Ijalu, Egbe, abducting five family members, including a woman, her infant and three others.
Upon receiving the distress call, the troops mobilised alongside the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and launched a pursuit on the terrorists’ escape route.
The sustained pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon Mrs Adekemi Idowu and her baby near the Oro axis, allowing for their safe return home.
Search operations continue to locate the remaining abducted family members and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged the public to provide timely, and credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
