Despite the directive issued to workers by the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to embark on strike, workers in Enugu State resumed at their various duty posts on Tuesday.

Our correspondent, who went to some areas in Enugu, the State capital, observed that Banks were rendering services to their customers.

It was also observed that workers of some government agencies resumed work early in the morning.

At the government revenue office along Zik Avenue, our correspondent observed that workers were in their various offices while a bank along Agbani Road was also rendering services to customers.

Similarly, both private and government schools also didn’t observe the strike as of the time of filing this report.

A civil servant, who spoke on condition of anonymity, blamed the leadership of both NLC and TUC over the non-compliance with the strike directive, saying they failed to act when the ovation was loudest.

It was also observed that there were heavy vehicular movements on the major roads of Enugu city while the markets were opened for businesses.

LEADERSHIP reports that the indefinite nationwide strike action declared by the Organised Labour was in protest to the arrest and brutalisation of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, allegedly by Police operatives in Owerri, Imo State, last week.
