Assembly Seats: PDP Wins 2 Seats, APC 1 In Sokoto Rerun Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Yusuf Yabo, as the winner of the rerun election for the Yabo/Shagari federal constituency of Sokoto State.

Despite scoring 2,249 votes in the rerun election compared to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Abubakar Umar, who scored a total of 3,741 votes in the exercise, Yabo was eventually declared winner having scored majority votes cast in the election with a cumulative votes of 27,042 as against his opponent’s 25,738.

Recall that in the February 25, 2023 general election, the PDP and APC candidates had initially scored 24,792 and 22,472 votes, respectively, before the exercise was declared inconclusive.

Similarly, the PDP candidate for Bodinga North state constituency re-run election, Magaji Abubakar, was declared winner of the exercise having polled a total of 6,488 votes against the APC candidate, Yusuf Marafa Danchadi, who garnered 5,893 votes.

APC, however, won the Tambuwal West state constituency seat with Dahiru Bashir Ahmed declared the winner with 19,315 votes against PDP’s Hantsi Sule Romo, who polled a total number of 19,021votes.

Meanwhile, the PDP, in a congratulatory message to the winners of the elections, signed by its Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, commended its supporters across the federal and state constituencies for their efforts and dedication despite alleged intimidation by agents of the APC.

The PDP, however, rejected the outcome of the re-run election in Tambuwal West state constituency, which it described as a political daylight robbery by some agents of the ruling APC in the State.
