Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has donated hundreds of bags of foreign rice and sugar to victims of the flood which recently ravaged most parts of Yobe State. He urged those who lost relations and properties in the incident to take it in good faith, and as an act of God.
The chairman, committee on the distribution who was minister of science and technology, Dr Abdul Bulama, condoled with the government and people of the state over the incident, describing it as “most unfortunate and highly regrettable”.
The relief materials will be given to any person who was in one way or the other affected by the flood, because the incident has stopped them from going to their places of business.
In his response, the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state, Hon Shariff Abdullahi, said the gesture was to ameliorate the sufferings of the people and those that lost their family members as well as properties to the disaster.
According to him, those that were seriously affected, especially those with broken fences, houses and roofing, and those affected in their farms would be supported.
He said the Atiku Abubakar deserves more commendation for the immediate assistance, and urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the items.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke during the event commended Atku, the governorship candidate and entire PDP members for the gesture, and called on the government, politicians and wealthy individuals to do the same. One of the victims, Salihu Ahmed, thanked Atiku and Shariff for the donation, saying it would go a long way in reducing the hardship he was facing after the flood.
