Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, on Wednesday called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure that allegations against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, which he said were investigated under former EFCC chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, are not swept under the carpet.
The National Democratic Congress, NDC chieftain said  after appearing before EFCC investigators at the commission’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on October 12, where he adopted his petition seeking a reopening of the investigation.
The development comes as the anti-graft agency acknowledged receipt of his petition, dated August 27, 2026, and received on September 1, confirming that the matter was being investigated.
The former lawmaker, who submitted the petition through his lawyer, Chief Hannibal Uwaifo, SAN, said the matter deserved renewed attention in the interest of accountability and the rule of law.
He urged the commission to ensure that the outcome of its earlier investigation was not left unattended, stressing that the law should apply equally to all Nigerians, regardless of their social or political standing.
“I want to thank Nigerians, the EFCC and those praying for me in this struggle. The laws are meant for both the rich and the poor. After the EFCC has done a fantastic job, it should not be kept under the table,” he said.
Agbonayinma maintained that reporting alleged wrongdoing was part of his constitutional responsibility, adding that no individual should be considered above the law.
He disclosed that he was invited to the EFCC headquarters on October 12 to adopt his petition and respond to questions from investigators as part of the ongoing process.
The former lawmaker arrived at about 9:58 a.m. and left at approximately 4:07 p.m. after the interview.
The C toommission’s acknowledgement letter, with reference number CR:3000/EFCC/HQ/SDC-2/VOL.3/398, forms part of the investigative process.
Agbonayinma also disclosed that he had petitioned United States President Donald Trump over the allegations, seeking attention to the matter.
He reiterated the need for accountability and strict adherence to the rule of law, insisting that allegations of wrongdoing should be subjected to appropriate investigation.
