A pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), named PDP One Hundred Percent Support, has called on former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, to adopt a united approach from party members in his quest for a coalition to oust the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

The group said it was better to rally all party organs in the coalition train, stressing that an individualistic approach will not make the needed impact.

The national coordinator of the group, Dennis Shima, welcomed the PDP governors’ rejection of the current model of opposition coalition adopted by Atiku and some persons within PDP.

He however cited the approach used by Governor Seyi Makinde in 2019 as an ideal method.

Shima recalled that Makinde rallied all opposition groups within the PDP in Oyo State which yielded the maximum benefit in defeating the APC in the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State.

According to Shima, ‘’The 2019 Oyo state model of coalition started by a solid foundation of putting PDP in order of purposeful perspective with a united PDP leadership at all levels of organs and tiers of government in Oyo state.

“The 2019 model which was midwifed by PDP stalwarts in Oyo state in collaboration with other opposition parties in Oyo state has become a political party template for any realistic and holistic as well as political party centered appropriate approach,’’ Shima said.

He said, “the PDP Governors’ Forum’s rejection of Individualistic model or self-styled opposition coalition led by some 2023 presidential candidates should be rethinked by those who are advocating for it within PDP while considering the position of PDP Governors as a pathway to successful approach to 2027 Presidential election.

‘’As concerned PDP loyal group with concerned Nigerians who are, democratically ready to support a united PDP and Presidential candidate for 2027 as a duty and responsibility, we are appealing to PDP National Working Committee NWC, Board of Trusteeship BOT, and National Executive Committee NEC, and all PDP stakeholders to adopt 2019 Oyo state model of opposition coalition which mid-wifed election of His Excellency, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, as executive Governor in 2019 general election against all APC in Oyo state and APC led Federal Government attempts to stop PDP from winning Oyo state model of political coalition.”

Shima said Governor Makinde is in the right position to counsel PDP on the success of the 2019 Oyo State model of opposition coalition.

Shima said a united PDP stands a batter chance of winning the 2027 presidential election as against the individualistic approach which is being currently adopted.

‘’Let us as a matter of duty, unite as a political party at the national level with a focused political party leadership before approaching an opposition coalition which of course will be led by PDP as was done in Oyo state 2019 model,” Shima stated.
