The AUG Foundation for Orphans and the Less Privileged has expanded its statewide humanitarian outreach with the distribution of food items and cash assistance to 150 vulnerable households in Maru and Bungudu Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
The initiative, led by the Foundation’s founder, Abdulhafiz Umar Barau (Dan Isan Gusau/Magayakin Tsafe), forms part of an emirate-by-emirate intervention programme aimed at ensuring equitable humanitarian support across Zamfara State.
According to the Foundation, similar distributions have previously been carried out in Gusau, Tsafe, Dansadau and Kwatarkwashi emirates, while Zamfara West is scheduled as the next phase in the ongoing rollout.
The 150 beneficiaries were selected from various communities in Maru and Bungudu LGAs. They included widows, orphans, low-income families, unemployed youths and other vulnerable residents.
Each beneficiary received one bag of rice and ₦10,000 cash support.
The Foundation said the intervention was designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship and enhance community resilience at the grassroots level.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the State Coordinator of the Foundation, Comrade Abdul Bala Gusau, said the outreach reflected the founder’s commitment to inclusive and transparent humanitarian service across all zones of the state.
“This is part of a structured statewide programme to ensure that every emirate council and vulnerable community benefits from direct support. It is not a one-off intervention,” he said.
He added that the Foundation remained committed to fairness, accountability and sustained humanitarian impact.
Representatives of the Maru and Bungudu emirate councils commended Barau for what they described as a consistent, grassroots-focused intervention, noting that the support directly addresses the needs of struggling households.
They also offered prayers for the sustainability of the Foundation’s humanitarian efforts.
The Foundation clarified that the current distribution is distinct from its forthcoming Ramadan support programme, which will be implemented separately.
It reaffirmed its commitment to expanding humanitarian interventions across all 14 local government areas and emirate councils in Zamfara State, covering food relief, education support, healthcare assistance and financial empowerment initiatives.
