Leading humanitarian and social impact advocate, Dr. Emem Aniekanabasi Alban, has been named African Woman of Worth 2025 by the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO), in recognition of her outstanding contributions to humanitarian service and women-centred development across Africa.
Dr. Alban also emerged as a major highlight of the event with her formal induction as a Patroness of AWLO, a role that places her among a select group of influential leaders entrusted with advancing the organisation’s mission of strengthening women’s leadership, governance and development on the continent.
The honours were conferred during AWLO’s 16th anniversary celebrations, held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, which featured the organisation’s Annual Induction Ceremony, End-of-Year Lecture and Partners Awards Dinner. The event attracted prominent leaders, policymakers, development partners, private sector executives and civil society actors from across Africa.
The African Woman of Worth Award is one of AWLO’s highest recognitions, celebrating African women whose work exemplifies excellence, integrity and transformative leadership. Dr. Alban received the award for her impactful interventions through the End Hunger Humanitarian Initiative (EHHI), where she has consistently championed sustainable solutions to hunger, child malnutrition and women’s economic inclusion.
Her work has focused on practical, community-driven strategies aimed at improving food security, strengthening livelihoods and restoring dignity among vulnerable populations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Alban expressed gratitude to AWLO for the recognition, describing it as both an honour and a call to deepen collaboration among stakeholders working to build resilient and food-secure communities.
She noted that collective action remains critical to addressing systemic challenges such as hunger and inequality, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved through partnerships that place people at the centre of policy and practice.
The celebration also featured the HeForShe Champions of the Year Awards, which honoured outstanding male allies supporting gender equality, reinforcing AWLO’s commitment to inclusive progress driven by both women and men.
The event further underscored AWLO’s growing influence as a leading platform for advancing equitable, inclusive and sustainable development across Africa.
