Nottingham Forest celebrated a decisive 2-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday, with Nigerian internationals Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina playing pivotal roles.
The win marked a significant moment start for Awoniyi, who netted his first goal for the 2025-2026 Premier League season campaign.
Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, making his seventh appearance for the club, dramatically secured Forest’s second goal in the 80th minute. This strike ended a significant goal drought for the 28-year-old, whose last Premier League goal was against Wolves over 380 days prior. Awoniyi, introduced in the 68th minute, made an immediate impact, helping to dismantle Brentford’s impressive seven-match unbeaten home run.
Earlier in the match, Igor Jesus had put the visitors ahead with a superb right-footed volley into the far corner. Nigerian defender Ola Aina, a consistent presence since his return from injury, played the entire 90 minutes, making his sixth appearance of the current season. Aina was a formidable force in defence and was instrumental in the build-up to Jesus’ first-half goal.
