Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi bagged his third Premier League brace on Monday, powering Nottingham Forest to a memorable 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Nigerian needed just two minutes to break the deadlock, calmly finishing after a clever assist from Dilane Bakwa.
Forest doubled their lead in the 15th minute when Brazilian midfielder Igor Jesus converted a penalty, following a VAR review that awarded the visitors a spot kick.
Awoniyi struck again early in the second half, making it 3-0 in the 52nd minute after being teed up by Morgan Gibbs-White. That goal put the Tricky Trees firmly in control.
Chelsea grabbed a late consolation through Joao Pedro, who scored in the 93rd minute, but it was far too little to change the outcome.
The brace marked Awoniyi’s third in the Premier League for Forest.
He previously scored back-to-back braces in May 2023, first in a 4-3 thriller against Southampton, then in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea, also at Stamford Bridge.
