The Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider granting mercy to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, warning that his continued detention could worsen if urgent action is not taken.

Primate Ayodele made the appeal in a viral social media video circulated where he passionately urged the President to intervene in Kanu’s case and ensure that the matter is not unnecessarily prolonged.

In the video, the cleric directly called on Tinubu to show compassion, saying, “Don’t let Nnamdi Kanu fall sick in the cell President Tinubu, have consideration on Nnamdi Kanu please.”

He further urged the federal government to urgently revisit the matter, insisting that the case should not be allowed to drag on without resolution.

According to him, “Review his case, it will be reviewed but don’t let it to be delayed.”

Ayodele questioned the gravity of the offences allegedly committed by Kanu, arguing that whatever his actions may have been, they should not place him beyond forgiveness or presidential pardon.

In his words, “Has he done anything that is serious, that is unpardonable or nobody can pardon him?

“Is Nnamdi the Devil, has he done anything that they cannot forgive him?” Ayodele asked.

He maintained that the government should use the opportunity to take a broader political and national interest approach to the matter, rather than allowing it to remain a lingering source of division and tension.

Primate Ayodele said, “Let the government review this matter to settle scores and balance certain things.”

He concluded his appeal by explicitly calling for presidential clemency, saying Kanu deserves the exercise of mercy powers available to the President.

“Nnamdi Kanu needs prerogative of mercy,” he declared.
