Africa’s largest gathering of creative industry professionals, CANEX WKND, is set to take place from October 16-19, 2024, in Algiers, Algeria.
The 2024 edition will revolve around the theme “One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World,” focusing on connecting the Global Africa and developing strategies to elevate African creatives on the international stage.
Featuring key stakeholders from the continent and diaspora, CANEX WKND will engage creatives, industry experts, government agencies, and investors to innovate solutions for the challenges facing Africa’s cultural and creative industries.
The event promises diverse conversations led by top industry professionals, networking opportunities, film screenings, a fashion show, a full-scale market and exhibition, as well as live performances, creating a vibrant and dynamic gathering for creative business professionals.
CANEX WKND aims to inspire creative practitioners, stakeholders, organisations, and governments to collaborate, share ideas, and embrace innovations in technology to strengthen trade and business growth. It celebrates Africa’s rich and diverse culture.
One of the highlights of the event will be the CANEX Concert, scheduled for October 17, 2024, exclusively for registered CANEX WKND delegates.
The concert will feature South African amaPiano legends Scorpion Kings, comprised of Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa, who have significantly shaped the genre in South Africa.
Also performing will be Kenya’s rising star Sofiya Nzau, whose enchanting melodies celebrate the diversity of African traditions and promote unity and love.
The renowned Tuareg music collective Tinariwen will make an exciting return to the Algerian stage after a long hiatus. Popular both in Algeria and globally, Tinariwen are considered pioneers of desert blues, blending traditional Tuareg and African music with Western rock influences.
Completing the lineup is Nigerian superstar Ayra Starr, known for her distinctive voice and her hit single “Away.” Starr made history as the youngest African female artist to surpass 100 million views on a single YouTube video within five months.
