The attack on the Chief Imam allegedly followed the death of one Ibrahim Gana, who had been ill and was on admission at a medical facility in the area.

Two brothers of the deceased identified as Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gaba were said to have accused the Chief Imam of being responsible for their brother’s death.

Confirming the tragic death in a statement on Thursday, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi said the brothers allegedly mobilised several individuals to attack the victim with offensive weapons, leading to his death.
