Baba Mohammed Commends National Assembly For Passing NATCOM Bill Into Law

Dr Baba Mohammed has expressed his appreciation to the National Assembly for passing the establishment of the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons into law. This significant development in the country’s security sector has been long-awaited and is expected to curb the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country.

In a statement personally signed by Dr Mohammed, he saluted the foresight of President Muhammadu Buhari and his vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for creating an enabling environment for the successful passage of the bill. He also appreciated the President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the National Security Adviser, Retired Major General Babagana Monguno, and other critical stakeholders for their belief in the ability of the commission.

Dr Mohammed further appreciated the steadfastness of the teeming Nigerian youth for their perseverance while waiting for due process towards the take-off of the commission in full force to be accomplished. He called for restraint and calm on the part of Nigerian youth, believing firmly that there would be light at the end of the tunnel.

The establishment of NATCOM is expected to enhance the coordination of efforts between various security agencies in the country to combat the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. This will ultimately improve the security situation in the country, making it safer for all Nigerians.

Dr Mohammed’s commendation is timely and well-deserved, as the successful passage of this bill into law is a major milestone in the country’s security history. This development is expected to boost the confidence of Nigerians in the ability of the government to address the security challenges facing the country.
