The Baha’i Community in Abuja has emphasised the need for all Nigerians to embrace peace and unity so as to enhance the progress of the country.
A leader of the community, a retired commissioner of police, Barrister Lawrence Alobi made the call at an event to mark the New Calendar year of the Baha’i Faith (Naw-Ruz) in Abuja after 19 days’ fasting by the faithful.

Asserting that there can be no meaningful development in a society devoid of peace and unity, Barr. Alobi sued for religious harmony, saying all religions come from God and that they all preach peace, love, unity, purity of character, service to God and humanity and, therefore, there should be no discrimination among them.

“We are like fingers of one hand, leaves of one branch and branches of one tree. We should therefore live in peace and be united towards making the world a better place for all,” Alobi said.
The former FCT police commissioner quoted the Prophet Founder of Baha’i Faith, Bahaullah who said: “The well-being of mankind, its peace and security are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established”.

Other faithful spoke on the significance of the 19 days of fasting, saying it is a period of cleansing and spiritual rejuvenation to usher in the Naw-Ruz (Bahai New Year) after the end of the fast.
