The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at his critics within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying those who once accused him of working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) have now defected to the ruling party.

Wike, who spoke on Wednesday during the flag-off of a road project in Abuja, expressed satisfaction over recent political alignments, hinting that he would soon address Nigerians in detail about ongoing events.

“I am very happy, but very soon I will speak to Nigerians,” Wike said. “I have been watching daily television and social media. People who said I want to destabilise their party (PDP), that I am working for APC, all of them are now in APC. Which means if it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are coming to. So, I should be commended for doing a good job for them.”

The FCT Minister, who served two terms as governor of Rivers State under the PDP, said politics requires maturity and caution, stressing that he remains focused on his duties in the FCT.

“I have told people that politics is for the matured people. In politics, you have to be very careful,” he added.

Wike’s remarks came amid a wave of high-profile defections from the PDP to the APC. On Tuesday, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State officially joined the APC, and on Wednesday, Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri, also announced his defection from the PDP.

The developments have further deepened the crisis within the opposition PDP, with Wike’s latest comments likely to stir fresh political reactions across party lines.
