Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed deep grief over the death of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, who passed away at a hospital in Saudi Arabia after a protracted illness.
In a condolence message yesterday signed by his spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described the late jurist as a distinguished son of Bauchi, whose life was defined by integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law.
The governor noted that Justice Tanko Muhammad rose through the ranks of the judiciary with rare diligence, serving meritoriously as a Judge of the High Court, Justice of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, before attaining the nation’s highest judicial office as Chief Justice of Nigeria between 2019 and 2022.
To him, the late CJN was widely respected across the legal community for his sound legal intellect, uprightness and immense contributions to the growth and stability of Nigeria’s judicial system, adding that his conferment with the national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) was a fitting recognition of his exceptional service to the nation.
“Justice Tanko Muhammad exemplified the qualities of a patriotic Nigerian whose life was devoted to the service of justice and the advancement of our great nation.
His passing is a significant loss not only to Bauchi State, but to the Nigerian judiciary and the rule of law,” Governor Mohammed said.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late jurist, his friends, colleagues in the legal profession, and Nigerians at large, while praying that Almighty Allah grant his soul Al-Jannatul Firdaus and comfort all those mourning his death.
