A total sum of N300.219 billion has been budgeted for capital and recurrent expenditures by the Bauchi State government for the 2024 fiscal year.
The figure indicates that recurrent expenditure is N121.341 billion or 40.4 percent while the capital expenditure is N178.878 billion or 59.6 percent.
Presenting Appropriation Bill 2024 to the state House of Assembly yesterday, Governor Bala Mohammed said the budget is 48.2 percent higher than that of 2023.
The governor attributed the increase to the subsidy removal and the upward inflationary trend associated with the depreciating state of the local currency.
He said, “This implies an increase in prices upon which our projects and programmes will be implemented. The adoption of this conservative approach is to ensure that projects and programmes captured are appropriately costed.
“The process of the preparation of the budget has been all inclusive. Budget public hearings were conducted in the three senatorial zones where inputs from stakeholders were elicited and incorporated into the budget proposal,” Bala Mohammed said.
On his part, the speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Babayo Muhammad Akuyam, assured that the House will speedily consider the budget for passage.
