Bamidele Urges Leaders To Emulate Christ, Shun Divisive Politics

The Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central, on Sunday, joined Christians worldwide in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He urged leaders to shun divisive agendas and narratives that could further complicate the country’s challenges.

He disclosed that the National Assembly is developing legal frameworks for creating state police to address the nation’s insecurity.

In his Easter message, which was issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja, the Senate Leader called on Nigerians to reflect on Jesus Christ’s virtues, learn from His consecration, and live a life of purpose rooted in the pursuit of justice, love, and redemption for humanity.

The message reads: “As we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord, we must reflect on His virtues; learn from His consecration and live His life of purpose rooted in the pursuit of justice, love, and redemption for humanity.

“Despite the animosity He suffered and the opposition He faced, Jesus Christ consciously sought and secured freedom for the captives, peace for the troubled, comfort for the sorrowful, love for the dejected, justice for the oppressed, and hope for those in despair.

“In Nigeria today, Christ’s example offers us a glimpse of how we should live together—as compatriots, not competitors; collaborators, not combatants; comrades, not contenders—in building a viable and virile federation that serves the interest of all.

“The recent killings in Benue and Plateau States outrightly negate the virtues of peace and love that Jesus Christ taught during His days. The recurring utterances by some political and sectional figures also contradict the values of courage, perseverance, and tolerance, which He lived for. No country develops when one section rises against another, and vice versa.

“While the National Assembly is developing legal frameworks to establish state police as part of measures to address insecurity, we urge security agencies to work collaboratively to track and apprehend the masterminds and sponsors of terror attacks nationwide.

“We appeal to political actors who exploit the country’s challenges to push divisive narratives to learn from the example of Jesus Christ. Such individuals no longer engage in constructive opposition but merely take advantage of the nation’s difficulties for their parochial political gains.

“Nigeria is our ultimate project. As a parliament, we are committed to its realization. This is evident in all the legislative initiatives we have pursued since the inception of the 10th National Assembly. We aim to build a federation globally recognised for peace, progress, and prosperity.

“Regardless of ethnicity, politics, or religion, all stakeholders must shun divisive rhetoric and unite against the common enemies of Nigeria, rather than undermining our efforts to build a strong and resilient federation,” he added.
