Spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Ahmed Mohamed Wakil, confirmed the incident on Sunday, disclosing that the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19.

CSP Wakil explained that the bandits, who were in large number, ransacked the shops before whisking away the shop owners to an unknown destination.

He named the abducted shop owners as Tasi’u Malem Yahya, 32 years old; Hakilu Ubayo, 15; Abdul Aziz Sulaiman, 28; and 16-year-old Rabiu Ganjwa, all residents of Gali community.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi Command, CP Sani Omolori Aliu, swiftly directed the Divisional Police Officer of Alkaleri Division, and mobilised a joint rescue team comprising police operatives, local vigilantes and hunters to rescue the victims.

“Although the area is now calm, our operatives are combing the surrounding bushes to locate and rescue the victims, and arrest the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Wakil said.

The incident has sparked fear among residents, as concerns mount over growing insecurity in rural communities around the famous Yankari Games Reserve.

Recently, bandits killed scores of vigilante operatives in an ambush along Gwana-Mansur Road in the state.
