Bandits who abducted a commissioner in the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) Barrister Ahmed Mohammed Wawa are demanding N260 million for his release even after collecting N40m.  Ahmed was abducted in Ibbi in Mashegu local government area, along the Mokwa- New Bussa road in September. The family has reportedly paid N40 million but the bandits refused to release him.

Our correspondent gathered that the bandits have  transferred him to an unknown camp in Zamfara State from their temporary camp in Kainji Park forest.

Family sources said the commissioner was abducted with three others in his vehicle with a demand of ransom of N100 million on each but the family was able to raise N40 million after selling his property and collecting contributions from friends.

His driver and another passenger died in the bandits’ captivity while the third abductee, a woman, was released but the bandits were insisting that the ransom on the dead driver be paid before they release the commissioner.

A family member, Ayuba Abubakar, told LEADERSHIP; “We have tried, sold everything but the bandits are insisting that we must pay the N100 million  each on three of them including that of  the dead driver.”

He said the last time they contacted the family, they said Ahmed was seriously ill and  we should pay the ransom quickly.

He said, “We wrote to the police, DSS and even the government, we don’t know for now what they have done.”
