Over 30 bandits attacked seven communities in Augie town of Augie local government area of Kebbi State at the weekend, killing two and abducting 27 people.

The attackers carried out the onslaught on Augie town under Argungu Emirate riding on motorcycles.

A resident and politician in the local government, Abubakar Kwaido, who revealed this to LEADERSHIP Sunday named the communities affected as Sattazai village, Zagi, Tungr-Baki, Tungar Tudu, Sabon-Garin Kwaido Sheke and Kwaido town.

He said the bandits took advantage of a heavy downpour which occurred in the communities at night which lasted for about nine hours as they shot sporadically killing and abducting residents.

Kwaido added that N15m was later paid as ransom to the bandits and they released nine of the abductees.

According to him, a large number of residents who survived the attack had to escape to neighbouring towns including Bayawa, Augie, Argungu and parts of Sokoto state for safety.

A statement issued yesterday by the police spokesman, Kebbi State Command, DSP Abubakar Nasir, indicated that the commissioner of police, Ahmed Magai Kontagora and his team in conjunction with tactical personnel had visited the communities to ensure adequate security while normalcy had since been restored in the areas affected.
