Armed bandits have killed 21 people in Bunkasau village under Zarummai ward of Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The attackers, estimated to be over 80, arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on residents, also abducting several people, mostly women, and stole livestock.
One of the villagers who spoke on grounds of anonymity in an interview said the attack occurred late Friday night
According to him, residents are still searching for missing persons.
He further hinted that Funeral arrangements are underway for the deceased.
He called on federal and Zamfara State governments to come to their aide by deploying security personnel to the area to restore peace.
“I am calling on the authorities particularly the federal government and Zamfara State government to deploy more security personnel to our local government to address the lingering insecurity affecting us,” he said
When contacted by our correspondent , the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident, noting that the number of death were unspecified.
According to him, the Command has deployed adequate personnel to the area, adding that normalcy has been restored.
DSP Yazid Abubakar urged the communities to always cooperate with the police by providing accurate information on the movement of the bandits.
