In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old female banker named Amarachi Ugochukwu, employed as a marketing staff member at Globus Bank in Lagos, Ikorodu, has sadly taken her own life, attributing her desperate act to the deteriorating economic conditions in the country.
This widely circulated incident, which occurred on Monday, January 8, 2024, gained attention on social media yesterday. Colleagues began searching for Amarachi after she had been absent from her desk for an extended period.
During the search, it was discovered that one of the office toilet doors had been locked from behind. Upon forcefully opening it, her motionless body was found with an empty medium-sized Snipper bottle suspected to have been taken by her. A medical doctor was called, confirming her death upon arrival.
In a poignant suicide note, the deceased expressed the overwhelming struggles she faced amid extreme hardship and a bleak future, leading her to choose to end her life to escape the relentless challenges.
The diary entry read, “The future doesn’t seem right at all; I see extreme hardship. I can’t bear the pain anymore.” She added that her mind was messed up as the future looked bleak for her, apologizing to her family and asking for the Lord’s mercy.
She said,“ I’m sorry, Mom; I am sorry, Dad. I’m sorry, Meme, Okwe, Toto Nazor, Chuchu, and Ifunanya. Lord, have mercy on me!”
The police have removed the corpse and deposited it at Ikorodu General Hospital for autopsy. As of now, the bank has not released any statement regarding the deceased staff.
