The Bauchi state government has approved N888.5 million for the payment of 2026 external examination fees for 24,917 students in public secondary schools across the state.
The state commissioner for Education, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, disclosed this yesterday during his first press conference as commissioner in charge of the ministry. He said a total of 24,917 students across Bauchi State would benefit from the intervention.
He explained that the approval covers the registration of students for various examination bodies. Under the National Examinations Council (NECO), 22,646 students will benefit, while 2,064 students will be sponsored for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
Additionally, 207 students will be registered for the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), and the intervention also covers 6,562 students under the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), including Computer-Based Test (CBT) training for candidates in public secondary schools across the state.
The commissioner described the approval as a landmark decision that demonstrates the unwavering commitment of Governor Bala Mohammed to strengthening the education sector and ensuring that no child is denied the opportunity to sit for critical examinations due to financial constraints.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the administration’s sustained efforts to expand access, promote equity, and improve learning outcomes in public schools.
Hon. Abdulkadir Ibrahim commended Governor Bala Mohammed for considering the students worthy of such a strategic investment, adding that the gesture will significantly ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while empowering thousands of young people to pursue higher education and career opportunities.
