Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has dissolved the management committee of Wikki Tourists Football Club with immediate effect following the club’s poor performance in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, which ended in its relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL).

The decision was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson Mukhtar Gidado.

According to the statement, the governor approved the dissolution after a comprehensive review of the club’s performance and the various interventions undertaken by the state government to retain its top-flight status.

It said the move underscores the government’s determination to reposition Wikki Tourists, restore public confidence in the club’s management, and lay a solid foundation for its immediate return to the elite division of Nigerian football.

The statement noted that throughout the season, the state government provided the club with the necessary financial and administrative support to enhance its competitiveness and improve its performance.

It added that, as a last-ditch effort to avoid relegation, the government constituted a Rescue Team during the closing stages of the season to complement the work of the Management Committee and steer the club to safety.

“Unfortunately, these interventions did not produce the desired outcome, as the club was ultimately relegated,” the statement said.

Consequently, Governor Mohammed approved the appointment of former Bauchi State director of Sports, Alhaji Haruna Bako, as the Interim Sole Administrator of Wikki Tourists Football Club pending the constitution of a substantive management committee.

The statement said the Interim Sole Administrator is expected to immediately take charge of the club’s administration, oversee the handover of all operations, assets, records and liabilities, and initiate measures aimed at repositioning the club for improved performance and a successful campaign in the forthcoming Nigeria National League season.

The Bauchi State government also expressed appreciation to the outgoing management committee, led by Salmanu Abubakar, for its service to the club and wished its members success in their future endeavours.

It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reviving Wikki Tourists Football Club, assuring supporters that every necessary step would be taken to restore the club to its place among Nigeria’s leading football teams and secure an early return to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
