Mohammed reminded the corps members that the primary aim of the NYSC scheme is to promote national unity and integration, pointing out that the orientation course was aimed at assessing and harnessing their physical, psychological, mental and intellectual capabilities.

The governor spoke during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘C’ stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wailo, in Ganjuwa local government area of the state.

The governor noted that those who served before have established a solid foundation, hence the need for the serving members to build upon the legacy left behind.

Represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, Governor Mohammed said the people of Bauchi are in support of the goals and objectives of the NYSC Scheme.

“I am very pleased with the spirit of patriotism and enthusiasm you

displayed by promptly reporting to this orientation camp. I urge you to sustain and be guided by this spirit during the orientation exercise and throughout the period of your primary assignment.

“The NYSC programme being a catalyst for accelerated national development, I wish to once again urge you to be totally committed towards the realisation of the noble objective of the scheme. The future of this country rests on you,” he said.

On his part, the NYSC director-general, Brig-Gen Yushau Ahmed, warned the newly sworn-in corps members across the country against destruction of hostels and other camp structures in their various locations.

Represented by the NYSC state coordinator, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, Ahmed warned that any corps member found wanting would be ‘seriously’ sanctioned in accordance with the scheme’s extant rules.

He said this was necessary in order to adequately maintain the newly renovated orientation camp by Governor Bala Mohammed.

He explained that out of the 2,200 corps members posted to the state, 1,442 corps members, comprising 671 males and 771 females, had been successfully registered before the swearing-in ceremony.
