Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has asked traditional and community leaders to step up efforts against deforestation and illegal logging.
He warned that environmental neglect poses a serious threat to the state’s future.
The governor spoke yesterday at the Bauchi Unity Park, where he planted trees to mark the 50th anniversary of the state’s creation.
As part of the Golden Jubilee celebration, Mohammed planted 50 trees, symbolising the state’s 50 years of existence and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to environmental preservation.
He urged local government chairmen across the state to replicate the tree-planting initiative in their respective areas, stressing that grassroots participation was key to winning the fight against environmental degradation.
According to him, protecting forests and green spaces must become a collective responsibility, starting from the community level.
Governor Mohammed also appealed to the state’s residents to plant at least one tree in their homes and public spaces, noting that small individual actions can make a big difference in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
