Governor Bala Mohammed has debunked the insinuations that the flyovers he is constructing in Bauchi were borne out of gold-digging, especially at points where concrete pillars holding the flyovers were dug and erected.
He recollected the insinuations, “As I was coming here, I was told that the construction of the flyovers in Bauchi arising from which we cordoned some areas and we are filling, to create the pillars, digging out of gold with the Chinese who are constructing the flyovers.”

The governor, speaking during the state security council meeting yesterday to discuss the way forward concerning protests, explained the insinuations of gold exploitation, saying the gossip is all over Bauchi town.

“But we must eschew rumour and hatred between each other. So please, we should eschew rumour, restrain ourselves, and simultaneously give us the benefit of the doubt,” he said.
While speaking further on the protest, the governor stressed the need for the federal, state, and local governments, as well as leaders of thought, to amend policies and programmes in tune with citizens’ yearnings and aspirations.

“Whatever we are doing in our respective states, even at the federal government level, is not appreciated because it does not bring food on the table.”

“There are a lot of hardships, so definitely you have to listen. You have to amend policies by both the federal and state governments. Even leaders at our various levels, we have to make amends.”

“We know there are errors here and there, and we will make amends. We have listened and are ready to work together and see good governance. We will continue to ensure it is done in Bauchi and of
course at the level of our interactions with colleagues nationwide.”

“Certainly, this is not a good phenomenon; we know it is a protest against bad governance, and as a position, we know that this is something that is a manifestation of democracy; it is the right of the
people to show anger”.

Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed explained that he would have taken
the opportunity to say a lot of wrong messages to the federal government because it is time for governance, not for political campaigns.
