The Bauchi State government has inaugurated a tripartite implementation committee to ensure full compliance with the 11-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently signed with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) branch.
The committee, established by the Ministry for Higher Education and Regional Integration, is expected to facilitate the agreements that led to the suspension of the ASUU-SAZU strike.
At the inauguration in Bauchi, the commissioner for Higher Education and Regional Integration, Hadiza Abdulkadir Kango, stated that the committee comprises the permanent secretary of Government House, Yakubu Jibrin Abdullahi, representatives from the Ministry of Justice and ASUU-SAZU officials.
She urged members to strictly adhere to the terms of engagement and the agreed framework in the MoU, stressing the need for objective, timely feedback that will help resolve pending issues and support the growth of Sa’adu Zungur University.
Kango noted that establishing the committee became necessary after the signing of the MoU that facilitated the suspension of the union’s strike.
She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to honouring all agreements reached with ASUU.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, the permanent secretary, Government House, Yakubu Jibrin Abdullahi, pledged to work harmoniously with critical stakeholders to ensure fairness, transparency and justice throughout the assignment.
Additionally, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Isa Muhammad Tahir, acknowledged that the committee should have been constituted earlier but expressed confidence that the members would deliver on their mandate and expedite the implementation of all agreed-upon resolutions.
The inauguration marks a renewed effort by the Bauchi State government and ASUU to strengthen stability in the state’s tertiary education system.
