Members of the Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the State Working Committee of the Union led by Comrade Umar Sa’idu.
The decision of the journalists was based on their satisfaction with the numerous achievements recorded within the last three years of the current NUJ Executive Committee.
In a communique issued at the end of the May Congress of the Union held at NUJ State Secretariat in Bauchi, members recommended for a second tenure in office for the entire executives.
Meanwhile, the Congress ratified the nomination of a seven-member electoral committee for onward transmission to the National Secretariat for approval, to conduct fresh elections in to the offices of the State Working Committee members of the Union.
It urged members of the Union to continue to operate within the ambit of NUJ constitution and code of ethics to avoid misinformation and ensure that they fact-check their stories to uphold their integrity which is instrumental to the pillars of democracy.
“The Congress, which had in attendance 103 members, was also blessed by the Managing Director of Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC), Chindo Waziri, Acting Managing Director, Bauchi State Television (BATV) Usman Baba, and Chairman, Advisory Council, Ibrahim Idris Shall, was supervised by the National ex-officio, Abubakar Musa Waziri.
“The Congress commended the National Secretariat of the union under the able leadership of Mr. Chief Chris Isiguzo CFR, for supporting the Bauchi Council to record the huge success. It commended the Bauchi State Government for its effort in revitalising the state-owned media organisations, urging it to hasten the completion of the upgrade of the organisations.
“The meeting called on the security operatives to intensify effort of checking the activities of hoodlums to ensure the protection of lives and property. The Congress in session called on the Jos Electricity Distribution Company to improve power supply and address the issue of excessive billings,” the communique reads in part.
