The Bauchi state government has commenced registration of mining operators, processors and mineral vendors to ensure safety and security of communities and their environment.
The commissioner for natural resources, Hon. Muhammad Maiwada Bello, said the move was an effort to revitalise the sector and drive sustainable economic growth in the state.
According to him, the initiative would enable the state government generate real data of all operators, profile them on a designed database for the security and safety of mining communities, environment and perspective investors.
He added that a joint taskforce comprising natural resources ministry staff and representatives of BIRS, E-transact, House of Assembly committee on mining, local government administration as well as relevant security agencies would supervise and monitor the exercise to ensure total compliance.
Bello added that the exercise which commenced on April 24 would end on May 2 at the Revenue Enforcement Unit, Ministry of Natural Resources, beside Old Dass Park Road, Bauchi, Bauchi State, from 10 am to 4 pm daily.
