The Bauchi State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board has suspended the acceptance of payment deposits for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
LEADERSHIP learnt that the decision followed a directive from the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), signalling a firm stance on adherence to set timelines.
Speaking to journalists on Monday in his office in Bauchi, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Imam Abdulrahman Idris, confirmed the development, stressing that the board was merely complying with instructions from the national regulatory body.
Idris said any intending pilgrim who failed to deposit funds with the board on or before December 22 would no longer be considered for the exercise.
He, however, appealed for calm among intending pilgrims who missed the deadline, noting that there may still be hope.
According to him, a fresh window for deposits could be opened, but only if the National Hajj Commission issues a new directive to that effect.
