Beijing Donates $200,000 To Families Of Iran School Bombing Victims

China on Friday announced a $200,000 donation to the families of students killed in a missile strike on a school in Iran during the early days of the Middle East war.

Beijing described the attack as “indiscriminate”.

Tehran has accused the United States and Israel of carrying out the deadly strike on a school in southern Iran on the first day of the conflict.

Iranian media reported that funerals were held for at least 165 people, including children, who were killed in the attack.

However, the casualty figure has not been independently verified.

Authorities in the United States have launched a military investigation into the incident.

China’s foreign ministry said the Red Cross Society of China will provide $200,000 in emergency humanitarian assistance to the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

The funds will be used for “condolences and compensations” to the parents of the students who died in the strike.

Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun condemned the attack and said it violated international humanitarian law.

“Attacks on schools and children constitute a more severe violation of international humanitarian law and breach the bottom line of human conscience and morality,” Guo told reporters during a regular briefing.

He added that China is ready to provide further humanitarian support.

“China stands ready to continue providing necessary assistance to Iran in a humanitarian spirit to support the Iranian people through this difficult time,” he said.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported on Wednesday that a US military investigation found a US Tomahawk missile struck the school due to a targeting error.

Israel has denied any role in the attack.

AFP said its journalists have not been able to access the location of the strike to independently verify what happened or confirm the reported death toll.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump suggested that Iran itself could have been responsible for the strike, despite the country not possessing Tomahawk missiles.

He later said he could “live with” whatever conclusion the investigation reaches.
