Benue Assembly Suspends Kwande Council Chairman Over Alleged Misconduct

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Kwande Local Government Council and the immediate past chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Benue state chapter, Hon. Vitalis Terhile Neji, for three months over alleged misconduct and abuse of office.

LEADERSHIP had two days ago reported that Benue Assembly moved to suspend the embattled former ALGON chairman.

The ex-Kwande chairman’s suspension was announced during Thursday’s plenary of the Assembly, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.

A statement issued by the Speaker’s
Chief Press Secretary, Zape Michael Upaa, said Neji is to handover to the deputy chairman of Kwande Local Government Council who is to act as Caretaker Chairman of the council within the period.

According to the statement, “Benue State House of Assembly during its afternoon session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, MNIQS, RQS, adopted the reports of the ad- hoc committee and approves the suspension of executive chairman of Kwande Local Government Council Hon. Vitalis Terhile Neji, for a period of three (3) months pending proper investigation into the petition brought against him,” it said.

The Benue State House of Assembly had on 18th August, 2026, said it received a petition against chairman of Kwande Local Government Council Vitalis Terhile Neji, over gross misconduct and abuse of office.

The Assembly had immediately constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate the matter and report back to the House within 48 hours.
