The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended the Auditor General for Local Government, Abraham Gberidyer, over allegations of financial misappropriation and fraud amounting to the tune of Four billion, Six hundred thousand (N4.6bn) Naira.
The House took the decision at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.
Governor Hyacinth Alia had, in a letter sent to the House through the Office of the Head of Service, informed the House of serious financial impropriety, levelled against the Auditor General.
According to the letter, the Auditor General is currently under investigation for corruption and cannot continue to hold office, in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the removal of a corrupt public officer.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Zape Michael Upaa, said the House unanimously suspended the Auditor General from office to pave the way for a proper investigation.
