Benue State commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Benjamin Ashaver, has pledged to promote inclusive agricultural development, prioritising vulnerable groups, particularly widows, in the state’s empowerment programmes.
Ashaver stated this during a courtesy visit to members of the Benue Widows Association, led by their state coordinator, Grace Iorhe, in Makurdi.
The commissioner said he fully understands the plight of widows and assured the delegation that he would translate their expectations into tangible results, especially in agricultural empowerment.
Ashaver also aligned his vision with that of the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, noting the administration remains committed to repositioning the agricultural sector for sustainable growth, with women and vulnerable groups involved.
Speaking during the visit, the widows, through their leader, Iorhe, lamented the persistent marginalisation of widows in society but voiced optimism that the current leadership would usher in a new era of inclusion through targeted agricultural support.
Iorhe noted that, with proper empowerment, widows can contribute significantly to food production and economic growth in the state, adding that the group is ready to support policies that promote inclusiveness and improve their farming capacity.
