Bauhaus Global Investment Ltd, the contractor handling two underpasses in Gboko and Makurdi local government areas and 21 other roads, has attributed the delay in the completion of the projects to the heavy rainfall experienced in the state.

The company’s project manager, Charbel Al Ammar, told newsmen in Makurdi, the state capital, that now that the rains were receding, more roads would be constructed.

He said the work on the two underpasses had reached over 95 per cent completion.

Ammar said, “We have completed the walkway on the underpass project in Gboko. The company is working assiduously to complete the work on the walkway at the Makurdi underpass, which will be completed next week.

On the issue of water-discharged channels, Amman said, “We are still working on the discharge channels that will take water out of the underpasses.”

He said this would be immediately followed by screeding, painting, and lighting systems, among other finishing touches and assured that work on both projects would be completed in two weeks.

The project manager also disclosed that the company is responsible for constructing standard roads connecting the underpass.

Also, the director-general of the Bureau of Special Projects and Infrastructure, Prof. Gabriel Akpen, said work on 13 of the 21 roads, totalling 34.35 kilometres, has commenced in earnest.

Represented by the director, Engineering Services, Engr. Hembadoon Nongo, said although work was affected by the unfavourable weather conditions, the projects have reached 33 per cent completion.

In his remarks, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) chairman, Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his zeal to address the state’s infrastructure deficit.

He said the interaction would help to create public awareness on transparency and accountability regarding the ongoing infrastructural developments across Benue State.
