Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia on Friday donated N5 million each to 76 families of security personnel who were killed while serving in the state.
The donation, amounting to N380 million was made as a gesture of appreciation for the sacrifices made by the security men and their families.
Governor Alia expressed gratitude to the security heads and men in the state for their efforts in ensuring that the people of the State can sleep with their eyes closed.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for working tirelessly to restore peace in the state and assured the families of the slain heroes that their sacrifice would not be in vain.
Alia also promised to enroll the children of the deceased in school and provide them with support to ensure they do not suffer unduly.
“I want to assured you that the state government would work closely with the police wives’ association and other relevant agencies to provide support and empowerment to the families of the slain security personnel,” the governor assured.
He expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s first lady, Senator Remi Tinubu for her support to the state, assuring that the committee set up to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) was working to ensure that proposals provided were achieved.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Police Officers Wives’ Association in the state, Ojunwa Enemari commended the governor for his support and promised that the association would continue to support the state government in its efforts to promote peace and security.
In their separate reactions, two of the beneficiaries, Mrs Rita Yashina and Mrs Deborah Abraham whose husbands were killed in Daudu and Yelwata all in Guma local government area expressed appreciation to the governor for the donation and scholarship for their children.
The said the support will go a long way in solving their problems and pray for continued protection for Governor Alia.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Ifeanyi Enemari, who spoke for heads of security agencies in the state commended the governor for his kind gesture
“I want to appreciate the Governor for his efforts in promoting peace and security in the state, and I want to assure him that the police would redouble their efforts to rid Benue of criminal activities,” he assured.
