Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring key state-owned assets to productivity, boosting internally generated revenue, and creating employment opportunities for the people of the State.
Technical adviser to the governor on media, publicity and strategic communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, in a statement yesterday said
The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) had initiated an inquiry into the lease of the Sheraton Hotel, Makurdi.
The statement added that BIPC was also reviewing the agreement with the current lessee, King Di Nig Ltd.
According to the statement, the move aims to reposition the facility to deliver maximum economic value to the state.
The statement reads, “A forensic audit revealed serious irregularities surrounding the management and utilization of the Sheraton Hotel and the Lobi Cassava Processing Factory leading to loss of significant revenue due to poor performance and lack of functional facilities.
“Through the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), the Governor Alia-led administration also plans to revive the Lobi Cassava Processing Plant, which has remained inactive, and restore proper management structures to generate revenue and create jobs. The inquiry is ongoing, with a judicial panel chaired by retired Justice S. O. Itodo,” the statement said.
