Former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has cancelled all activities planned to mark his 64th birthday anniversary in the light of recent attacks and killings of farmers across seven local government areas of the state.

A statement by his media Aide, Terver Akase, explained that the cancellation was in consideration of the ongoing attacks, and killing of innocent Benue people across various local government areas.

“In light of the ongoing intensified invasion, attacks, and senseless killing of innocent Benue people by Fulani terrorists across various local government areas, Ortom has decided not to hold any celebration or festivities,” the statement said.

Akase added that instead of the celebration when the people were languishing and fleeing their communities, Ortom has chosen the occasion to demonstrate solidarity with the victims and the families of those that have suffered grievous attacks from the terrorist attacks.

The former Governor extend his deepest sympathies to all affected families and urged the people of Benue to continue praying fervently for the victims.

He also called on everyone to seek divine intervention to end the carnage and restore peace and security to the state, as well as other parts of the country.

Ortom further enjoined the people to also pray for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for God to grant them wisdom, strength, and divine guidance to confront and overcome the security challenges facing Benue State and Nigeria at large.

Speaking on his 64th birthday anniversary, the immediate-past Benue State governor expressed gratitude to God Almighty “for his mercy, good health, and blessings over the past 64 years, and as well reaffirms my commitment and dedication to the service of God and humanity in the years ahead.”
