The Benue Youth for Development (BEYD) has expressed its support for Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Last Tuesday, over 100 groups across the state held a one-million-man solidarity march for the governor over his commitment to the welfare of the people.

The group highlighted Alia’s contributions to the welfare of the people, especially the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, which the past administration failed to do.

The convener of the group, Krayzetee Terver Atu, who addressed the crowd, acknowledged the modest achievements of the governor in the area of minimum wage implementation, social welfare, the provision of subsidised farm inputs to farmers, peace efforts in Sankera, statewide infrastructure drive.

He emphasised the need for support for the governor to serve the people better.

Atu said, “The governor so far is doing well, as everyone can attest to, so there’s no need for distraction; politics has its season.”

He maintained that the time for governance should be dedicated to serving the people rather than bitterness.

“Not only has the governor restored the dignity of labour, he has brought back the zeal in public service,” he said.

Atu also highlighted the infrastructural development within a short time in office.

The groups, chanting solidarity songs, converged on the Benue State University’s first campus and marched through the city centre to the popular IBB Square, where supporters from across the 23 local government councils and their chairmen were on ground to receive the youths.

The occasion was used as a platform to sensitise the youths on the need for active participation in the new development agenda, which was the hallmark of the Alia administration.

The speakers took turns commending the governor and promising more support to consolidate his gains in the state.
