Berom Youths Oppose Hausa Leader’s Conferment Of Sardauna Title

The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has demanded the immediate arrest of a Hausa community leader in Bisichi, Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State, for unilaterally conferring a traditional title on a beneficiary.

BYM, in a statement issued yesterday in Jos, the youth group, led by its national president, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, described the action of the community leader, Ibrahim Isa, as “unlawful, arbitrary and a clear affront” to the revered traditional institutions of Foron District.

The said the incident occurred on Friday during Juma’at prayers, which coincided with the Salah celebration at the Bisichi Central Mosque. Isa, who was himself appointed Hausa community leader by the traditional ruler of Foron to serve under the Ward/Hamlet head of Bisichi, conferred the title “Sardauna of Sabon Gidan Dan Yaya Bisichi” on Alhaji Abdulmudallib Mudi Harde.

The BYM said the conferment blatantly violated established protocols, insisting that only duly recognised traditional rulers and councils have the exclusive right to confer such titles in Berom land and across Plateau State.

“This act represents a dangerous breach and a deliberate attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the Traditional Council in Foron District,” the statement read. “If left unchecked, it has the potential of creating confusion, fuelling tension and destabilising the fragile peace in the area,” the group warned.

The youth body warned that the move was not an isolated act of ignorance but a calculated challenge to constituted authority.

The statement read, “The Traditional Council of Foron District should immediately sanction the title recipient, Alhaji Abdulmudallib Mudi Harde, while commencing a full investigation into the matter.

“Security agencies should swiftly intervene, arrest Ibrahim Isa and the self-styled “Sardauna” for questioning to forestall any breach of public peace.

“Ibrahim Isa must publicly apologise and reverse the conferment without delay. He should be compelled to sign a peace undertaking guaranteeing the safety of all residents in and around Bisichi.”

BYM added that all residents, irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation, must respect the sanctity of traditional institutions, stressing that it remained committed to peaceful coexistence but would not tolerate any provocation or disregard for constituted authority.

“We will continue to monitor developments closely and will not hesitate to take further lawful steps to protect the integrity of Berom land and its traditional institutions,” the group declared

The Hausa leader could be reached for comment on the allegations.
