The Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his decisive and personal leadership in the successful rescue of students abducted in Kebbi and Niger States.
In a statement issued on Tuesday from his office in Kano, Bichi applauded the president’s direct intervention, noting that the action underscored a renewed commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians.
He said Tinubu’s decision to abort an international engagement in Johannesburg, South Africa, to personally supervise the rescue efforts marked a departure from what he described as the routine responses of past administrations.
“While previous governments often limited their response to condemnations, President Tinubu took a bold and proactive step by personally taking charge of the rescue mission. This reflects uncommon leadership and a deep concern for the lives of Nigerian children,” Bichi said.
The HJRBDA managing director also decried a growing trend in public discourse where government is quickly blamed whenever tragedies occur, with little acknowledgement of positive outcomes.
According to him, despite frequent accusations of inaction, the successful rescue operation demonstrated the effectiveness and dedication of the nation’s security architecture, particularly the Office of the National Security Adviser, led by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
“While accountability remains essential in a democracy, it is equally important to recognise and commend courageous leadership and successful interventions. Giving credit where it is due boosts national morale and encourages our security agencies,” he added.
Bichi described the rescue of the abducted students as a national victory, attributing it to the president’s hands-on leadership and the commitment of security operatives.
He urged Nigerians to adopt a balanced approach in civic engagement by combining constructive criticism with fair recognition of achievements, stressing that such an attitude is vital for national unity in the fight against insecurity.
The HJRBDA boss reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to supporting the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in promoting sustainable development and enhancing security within communities under its operational coverage.
