The Bishop of the Diocese of Kwara, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd Sunday Adewole, has enjoined Christians to begin the new year with a renewed commitment to hard work, compassion and responsible living.
He urged the Christians to use their God-given resources to positively impact others.
Adewole gave the charge in his New Year message to worshippers at the Cathedral of St Barnabas Church, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin.
He further urged the Christians to make conscious efforts to support the less privileged, stressing that true happiness comes from lifting others.
“God has blessed us in different ways, and we must use what He has given us to improve the lives of those around us,” he said.
He cautioned against misplaced priorities, noting that spirituality should not be used as an excuse for negligence at work, adding that: “When it is time to be at your place of work, you should be there and not in Church. Everything has its own time, and each responsibility should be given the attention it deserves.”
The cleric also warned against laziness, urging believers to take their businesses and careers seriously, saying that diligence and discipline remain key to growth and development, especially in the face of current economic realities.
While encouraging the faithful to be passionate about their jobs and set clear goals for the year, Adewole reminded them to always seek God’s guidance.
He further admonished Christians to remain prayerful and committed to regular study of the scriptures, describing spiritual growth as a foundation for success in all areas of life.
