The Bishop of Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Ecclesiastical Province of Enugu, Diocese of Enugu, the Rt Rev (Prof) Samuel Ike has condemned the recent reintegration of repentant terrorists, saying such reintegration must cease.

He made the call in his address at the 3rd Session of the 19 Synod of the Enugu Diocese taking place at St Peters Anglican Church Ogbete, Enugu.

The head of the Anglican Church in Enugu urged President Bola Tinubu to be courageous and be ready to deal with terrorists.

“While the Synod strongly condemns the recent reintegration of the so-called ‘repentant terrorists’ into the society, the president should be courageous and ready to deal with the terrorists.

“In a society where a man is sentenced to death for defending himself against terrorists, another made to face trial for their heinous crimes, such reintegration should cease,” he stated.

He noted that although the Synod appreciates the effort of the president in increasing the budget of the military, rejigging the security architecture, the worsening security situation has attracted the attention of the United States government with the resultant “Christmas Day Bombing” in Sokoto State.

The Bishop stated that it is their view that the back and forth arguments about Christian genocide is needless as it is obvious that although both Christians and Muslims are needlessly being killed, Christians are intentionally being targeted for elimination in Northern Nigeria.

He urged the government to sanction social media platforms that allow terrorists to use their platforms as a means of spreading fear and terror.

He further called on the president to sanction and remove members of his cabinet who are sympathetic to terrorists..

He expressed displeasure that innocent citizens are subjected to torture, starvation, amputation, rape and sometimes forced to witness or commit atrocities.
