Group managing director/CEO of Blue Ocean Nigeria Limited, Dr Damilola Ade has urged Nigerian lawmakers to ensure greater involvement of women in politics during the National Assembly’s upcoming constitutional amendment.
Dr Ade made this statement yesterday while receiving the Icon of Peace and Nation Building award from the “Nigerian Women of Integrity Par Excellence,” which recognises her significant contributions to women and youth empowerment, philanthropy, and educational development.
“Women possess natural compassion and careful resource management,” she stated. “When creating laws, it’s essential to consider gender issues and discrimination affecting women. They need an enabling environment to thrive, which will positively impact society.”
“For over a decade, my organisation has quietly engaged in humanitarian services, including building places of worship and creating jobs for youth. We aim to do more to serve humanity, alongside sponsoring thousands of students and supporting vulnerable community members,” she added.
Dr Ade emphasised the crucial role women play in politics: “Their involvement is vital for the nation’s rapid growth. When called to serve, one must do so diligently. Politics should be about making a meaningful impact on the lives of those you serve, a legacy I wish to continue. I urge women to engage fully in politics for the betterment of our citizens. I dedicate this award to God and the millions we have touched, and I thank my family for their unwavering support.”
She concluded by calling on all Nigerians to support the current administration’s renewed Hope Agenda, which is essential for advancing Nigeria’s progress.
Ambassador Ify Okoye, secretary general of the “Nigerian Women of Integrity Par Excellence”, highlighted the NGO’s commitment to promoting women’s rights and empowering vulnerable groups. The organisation has spent 18 years uniting Nigerian women and the diaspora, advocating for religious tolerance, monitoring elections, and mobilising grassroots efforts. She acknowledged Dr Ade’s contributions, including funding education for underprivileged children and effectively managing resources across various companies.
