Yobe State’s prominent governorship aspirant, Barrister Kashim Musa Tumsah, has expressed deep sorrow over last Sunday’s Nguru/Adiyani boat mishap, which claimed the lives of about 30 persons from Yobe and Jigawa states.
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja by the spokesman of the KMT Campaign Organisation, Abubakar Ahmed, Tumsah said he was deeply touched by the tragic loss of lives, describing the deceased as hardworking Nigerians who were striving to survive amid life’s difficult circumstances.
According to the statement, the aspirant extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries in the incident.
Although currently outside the country, Tumsah said he wished he were present to personally commiserate with the affected families.
He, however, disclosed that he had sent a strong delegation to the affected communities to convey his condolences and sympathise with the bereaved families.
He also prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus.
Tumsah appealed to relevant authorities at both the federal and state levels to expedite the delivery of relief and assistance to victims and their families.
He further called for increased public awareness and stronger safety measures for river transportation, particularly in communities where boats are a major means of movement.
The legal practitioner, businessman, farmer, and politician also extended their condolences to the governments of Yobe and Jigawa states over the tragic incident, praying for divine intervention to prevent a recurrence.
He urged residents of riverine communities to always adhere to safety guidelines while using water transport, stressing that collective responsibility was key to preventing avoidable tragedies.
