There were unconfirmed reports last weekend that two undergraduates of the university might have drowned at Ero Dam in Ikun Ekiti, Moba local government area of the state after they were declared missing.

The students were said to have met their untimely death while swimming in the river.

Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ekiti State Command, SP Sunday Abutu said, “The corpse of one of the reportedly drowned students of Ekiti State University has been found today (Sunday) at about 18:00hrs floating on the Ero Dam.

“Corpse removed and taken to Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti for autopsy. Effort is still ongoing to know the condition of the second student”.

The two students, feared to have died in the river, were identified as Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, both students of the Department of Theatre Arts of the institution.

It was gathered that the duo and their colleagues who were accompanied by their supervisor, went to Igogo Ekiti, a neighbouring community for research work and rehearsal.

The two students were said to have stayed back and headed straight to the dam for sight seeing after their supervisor had concluded the assignment and left Igogo with the team

They were later declared missing with the suspicion by some members of the community that they might have drowned in the dam.

Abutu who had earlier confirmed that the students were actually declared missing, disclosed that the police rescue team and fishermen had been searching for the missing students in the dam and around the area.
