Victor Boniface has sent a clear signal to Bayer Leverkusen fans that his injury nightmare is nearing its end, posting a video of himself back in action with a simple but promising caption: “Soon.”
The 42-second clip circulating online shows the Nigerian striker looking sharp in what appears to be a Leverkusen match setting, complete with a cheeky nutmeg on an opponent—a move that has excited Nigerian supporters who have been tracking his long road to recovery.
The 25-year-old has been sidelined for the entirety of Leverkusen’s current campaign. After managing a persistent knee cartilage issue since last summer, the problem forced him off the pitch permanently in December, culminating in surgery in January.
Boniface had been on loan at Werder Bremen to regain fitness, but the German side ultimately ruled out retaining him due to ongoing concerns over his physical condition.
This latest setback adds to a troubling injury history for the forward, who suffered two anterior cruciate ligament tears before turning 21. However, his career trajectory has been defined by resilience. He rebuilt his reputation at Bodo/Glimt, which paved the way for his move to Leverkusen. In his debut season, he was instrumental in the club’s historic first-ever Bundesliga title win, earning the Rookie of the Season award in the process.
Prior to his surgery, Boniface registered just two assists for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga this season.
